(I am unapologetically midwestern, except when I’m always saying “ope, sorry!”)
Meet Kate Bittner
I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, and now have over a decade of fine arts administrative experience, including time at the Aspen Music Festival, The Phoenix Symphony, and Interlochen Arts Academy. Eight of these years were spent in fine arts recruitment. I have served in both permanent and interim admissions roles at Lawrence University, DePauw University, and Loyola University New Orleans, and am active in both admissions and music admissions professional organizations.
My passion is to serve as a guiding hand for students who love music and the arts as much as I do, and to educate the world about the extraordinary value in obtaining an arts degree in college. I wouldn’t be here without my own music degree and guidance, support, and leadership from my mentors that are now dear friends. I hope to be the same sort of mentor for others.
In addition, I would also consider myself very much a “multi-interested” person, which means I love getting to know many universities, their programs, and their processes! Learning as much as I can about a place in a short amount of time keeps me engaged and curious. I’m then able to take the wide variety of experiences and deep knowledge base to help advise university admissions departments stay up to date and relevant in the higher education marketplace.
I have loved music and the arts since I was a little kid. My dad was the lead singer in a band and the whole family became dad’s groupies. When the time finally came around for me to choose my own music, I chose the violin in the fourth grade and never looked back. I grew up in Wisconsin, and went to school in a district that highly valued the arts. I feel very lucky in that regard and am grateful for it!
I currently live in Mesa, Arizona with my husband (also a musician) and two cats, Kiwi and Rajea. I am absolutely a crazy cat lady, love a good sci-fi show, and am very much enjoying the temperate winters in Arizona.
