Don’t forget these 4 things after audition season
Now that the 2024 college audition season is pretty much wrapped up, there are a few things you’ll want to do to put that cherry on top of an amazing college application and audition sundae.
(And as much as you might feel like it, don’t throw your instrument!)
CELEBRATE! Don’t forget to reflect on your hard work that you’ve put in, not only in your auditions, but for the years of practice that have brought you to this point. You made it through your auditions unscathed (at least I hope so!), and that’s worth a big pat on your back.
Send thank-you notes to the faculty or admissions folks that heard your audition. This could be an email or an actual hand-written thank you card that’s snail-mailed. The point is to thank the people who spent time listening to your audition, and continue building relationships with the people who will advocate for you when admission decisions are being made.
2.5 - Thank your parents and families for being there with you every step of the way. That includes helping you travel, driving you to countless rehearsals and lessons, and being your biggest fan.
Catch up on homework and keep up the good work in your senior year! If you missed some school because you were traveling almost every weekend in January and February for your auditions, make sure you stay on track with getting homework and projects done.
If you can, REST. Taking care of your mental and physical health after such a hectic season should be a priority. If the weather is decent where you live, get outside and spend some time in the sun! Start that TikTok-viral book series you’ve been hearing about. Spend some quality time with friends and family. This whole process is a marathon, not a sprint, so take the time to rejuvenate when you can.
What’s next?
Now you have the hardest task of all–waiting for decisions to come in! Remember, no matter what decisions you get, this college search does not define you as a person. Love the colleges that love you back! Take a deep breath and be proud of where you are.
